Welcome to Dongji Island, a stunning hidden gem off the coast of Zhoushan, Zhejiang – and the easternmost place in China! Often dubbed the “Hawaii of the East,” this island chain boasts crystal-clear waters, untouched coastal landscapes, and the chance to witness the magical natural phenomenon of bioluminescent blue tears. The main islands – Miaozihu, Qingbang, and Dongfushan – each have unique charm: Dongfushan offers breathtaking sunrises, Qingbang is quieter and home to hauntingly beautiful abandoned villages, and Miaozihu is the bustling heart made famous by the film The Continent. Hop on the island tour bus for ¥88, but bring cash and your ID as tickets between islands must be purchased separately. Reaching here takes a 2–3 hour ferry from Zhoushan – plan ahead and soak in the serenity of the sea.
