Located in the red no-man's land on the border of Mongolia, Inner Mongolia is a super niche tourist destination
On the border between Inner Mongolia and Mongolia, there is a large red mountain [Dahong Mountain], which is surrounded by a reddish-brown color in the sun. Looking down, it looks like the red veins of the earth, which is very spectacular
Dahong Mountain is located in Hohhot and goes north. It takes about 4.5 hours to drive from Hohhot. The nearest town to Dahong Mountain is [Siziwang Banner], which takes about 3 hours one way. If you don’t want to drive too long, it is recommended to stay in Siziwang Banner.
There is a straight road near Dahong Mountain. At the end of the road, you will reach the top of the mountain, and then there is an unpaved dirt road (see Figure 3). As long as you follow the traces on the side of the mountain, it is not easy to get lost.
!Be sure to fill up the gas before you go!After passing Siziwang Banner, the road to Dahongshan is a rural road, and there are basically no gas stations (they are also abandoned).
Bring enough water and dry food in the car! There are no open shops on the road. Even though Naomugen Sumu looks like a small village, the shops are most likely closed, so don't take the risk (it's really frustrating to drive for hours without finding food or drinks.
Locate [Naomugen Sumu], and there will be a sign pointing to a road that leads directly to it. Or you can also locate [Dahongshan] directly, but there are several Dahongshan on the map of China, so be sure to check if it is close to Naomugen Sumu.
