Jigong Mountain, located in Xinyang City, Henan Province, is one of China's four major summer resorts. It is also one of the first eight national scenic spots opened to the outside world in New China . It is one of the first 44 national key scenic spots in the country. Jigong Mountain is a national nature reserve with dense forests and rich biological resources. It has national key protected animals and plants such as giant salamanders, long-tailed pheasants, and fragrant fruit trees. It is a teaching and scientific research base for Henan Agricultural, Forestry, Normal, and Medical universities.
Jigong Mountain is known as "the place where Qing divides Henan and Chu and holds three rivers in its arms". Its eight major natural landscapes include "Buddha's light, sea of clouds, rime, rime, rosy clouds, exotic flowers and plants, strange peaks and rocks, and waterfalls and springs". There are architectural complexes of different countries and styles on the mountain from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China. It is known as the "Museum of International Architecture" and is the first public concession in Chinese history.
The four seasons here are distinct, with sunlight, heat, and water all occurring at the same time. Spring has large temperature fluctuations, summer is hot and rainy, autumn is clear and cool with small temperature differences, and winter is long, cold, and has little rain or snow.
Baoxiao Peak Scenic Area
Also known as Jigongtou or Jitou Stone, it stands at 765 meters above sea level. Climbing to the summit offers a panoramic view of the entire mountain. At the foot of Baoxiao Peak, there's a poem inscribed: "Slowly ascend Jigong Mountain, quickly ascend Baoxiao Peak. The scenery here is beautiful, with a touch of autumn breeze in the summer." Jigong Mountain is named after this peak, and Baoxiao Peak is the symbol of Jigong Mountain.
Zhongzheng Air-raid Shelter
The entire air-raid shelter is made entirely of reinforced concrete. It is divided into two layers. The outer layer has corridors, skylights, front and back doors, and the inner layer has conference rooms, study rooms, and toilets. The total length of the air-raid shelter is 63.3 meters. There is a secret passage at the back that leads directly to the HSBC Bank building in the southeast.

Night visits or light shows are not available at Jigong Mountain, as it is mainly a daytime outdoor and religious site. However, the area is quiet and peaceful at night, making it a serene place for stargazing or early morning hikes.
Jigong Mountain can be crowded on weekends and public holidays, especially in the summer and during Chinese New Year. The least crowded times to visit are on weekdays, particularly in the mornings or late afternoons, outside of peak tourist seasons.
Basic facilities, such as toilets and rest areas, are available at the base and summit of Jigong Mountain. There are also small food stalls near the entrance, where you can purchase snacks and drinks. However, there are no large restaurants or shops on the mountain itself.
Jigong Mountain has some challenging terrain, and while the main areas near the temple are accessible, the hiking trails may be difficult for elderly or disabled visitors. If visiting with children or those with mobility challenges, it is advisable to stick to the more accessible paths and visit the temple area.
