Day 12 | From San Diego Back to Los Angeles: A Coastal Rail Trip 🚆🌊
Farewell to the sunny Southern California seaport city of San Diego, this journey has come full circle, returning to our starting point: Los Angeles.
Unlike previous overnight buses or domestic flights, today we're exploring a US rail journey: the AMTRAK Pacific Surfliner!
💰One-way fare is approximately USD $36
🕒 The journey takes about three hours, with seven stops.
🪑 Double-decker trains offer spacious seats, and sleeper berths are available on some sections.
We especially recommend sitting by the left window, as this train follows the Pacific coastline, offering breathtaking views of the blue sky and turquoise sea. The entire journey is picturesque, offering a distinctly Californian experience. 🚉 Santa Fe Depot
This historic Spanish Colonial-style station, built in 1915, is one of San Diego's transportation hubs and the starting point of this rail journey.
🚉 Union Station Los Angeles
Regarded as one of the "most beautiful stations in America," this building blends Moorish, Art Deco, and Spanish Colonial styles, and is a frequent sight in vintage movies. The station also houses a cafe and bookstore, making it a classic Los Angeles landmark.
🍜 Chinatown LA
Just a short walk from the train, this area is filled with oriental charm. Whether it's Chinese archways, ancient herbal medicine shops, or affordable and delicious Chinese restaurants, it's a warm and comforting experience during a trip abroad.
🎶 Walt Disney Concert Hall
Designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, it's the performance venue for the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra. The exterior resembles silver petals unfolding, its flowing lines exuding a futuristic feel. It's a must-see photo opp.
🛍️ Best Buy (DTLA)
A tech geek's paradise! Whether you're looking for electronics, cameras, headphones, or checking out trendy American products, there's a wide selection here, and the prices are sometimes even better than in Taiwan.
🏨 Hollywood Historic Hotel
Tonight, I'm staying at this century-old hotel, steeped in nostalgia. Located right on Hollywood Boulevard, it's within walking distance of the Walk of Fame. I was lucky enough to be upgraded to a king-size room with a street view. It's a shame this trip was solo; it would have been so romantic to enjoy the night view with my significant other...
From the coastline views from the train window, to the familiar atmosphere of Chinatown, to the cultural atmosphere of the concert halls and historic hotels, this day trip across the city made me realize once again the diversity and charm of California, and made me cherish every moment of my journey even more. #Day12 #San Diego #Los Angeles #Amtrak #PacificSurfliner #CaliforniaTrainTravel #RailTravel #TrainTravel #San DiegoTrainStation #Los AngelesUnionStation #UnionStationLA #Chinatown #ChinatownLA #CaliforniaStyle #CoastlineTrain #USAFreeTravel #TravelDiary #TravelRecord #Self-GuidedTravel #PacificScenicView #ConcertHallArchitecture #WaltDisneyConcertHall #ArchitecturalAesthetics #Los AngelesAttractions #USHotels #HollywoodHistoricHotel #HollywoodAccommodation #SceneryOnTheTravel #TheRomanceofASolitaireTravel #Traveler'sLife #WalkingDays
