A must in Chengdu! Chengdu main’s attractions! 🐼 Giant Panda Base

The China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda Dujiangyan Base is a post-earthquake reconstruction project in Sichuan Wolong Nature Reserve funded by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. It is 760 mus and close to the Giant Panda Habitat World Nature Heritage Area. The Base is dedicated to the conservation, research and education in the giant panda disease prevention and control, wild rescue, international cooperation and public science education.

The Sichuan mountains is known for being the natural habitat of pandas, and seeing them in the flesh is the main reason why tourists visit Chengdu. The Dujiangyan Panda base is one of the few panda conservation centers, and is located more than an hour away from Chengdu. The place is like a big zoo with many giant pandas, a few red pandas, and moon bears housed in individual enclosures. One major tip when visiting this place is that you must go there early or as soon as they open. This is because the giant pandas tend to sleep when noon approaches due to the sun’s heat. They are more active earlier in morning, and the chances of seeing them walking around are higher. The giant pandas are lazy, slow, have a huge appetite, and act nonchalant in the presence of people. You can only view most of the giant pandas from afar so it’s difficult to take a good photo of them unless you have a camera with a good zoom lens. The panda base has a souvenir shop inside, and there are many vendors selling panda souvenirs outside as well.
