
The Shengshou Temple Pagoda, commonly known as the Yan Pagoda, is located 200 meters northwest of Yanzhuang Village, Houtai Township, Sui County, Shangqiu City, Henan Province . It is a renowned Song Dynasty cultural relic and tourist attraction in Sui County. Despite numerous earthquakes and erosion, it remains remarkably strong. In 1985 , the provincial government allocated funds for repairs and reinforcement. The pagoda stands 22 meters tall, with a 28.4 -meter circumference at its base. It is a symmetrical hexagonal structure with nine levels of dense eaves.
Each eaves of the tower's exterior is built with stepped bricks. The first floor is 3 meters high and features a semicircular arched door opening to the south. Hundreds of brick carvings of Buddha statues are embedded in the exterior walls of rooms one through six, each with its own unique shape, demonstrating a breathtaking level of artistry.
Inside the tower is a hexagonal core chamber with brick walls and painted patterns on the top, providing a physical basis for the study of ancient Chinese architecture and sculpture.
