If you ask me where to see the best sunsets in Melbourne, I wouldn’t tell you to go to the big attractions, but instead would recommend a secret spot that only locals know – Point Ormond Lookout! This place is really quiet, beautiful, perfect for you who want to relax, take beautiful photos, hea watching the sunset.
📍Where?
Point Ormond Lookout is located on the seaside of Elwood on Melbourne’s south-east side, not far from the city center and you can take a tram to near Luna Park and walk along the seaside walk for about 30 minutes.
🌇 What’s so attractive?
• Great for watching the sunset: At dusk, the whole sky is dyed orange-red and the sun is slowly falling into the sea level.
• See all the Melbourne skyline: The small hillside, although not high, is enough for you to see the entire City and take beautiful pictures of the sea + city + sky and frame.
• Comfortable seating on the grass: Bring a picnic mat and sit on the grass to enjoy the sea breeze and watch the sunset to music, it’s a mind press.
• Dog friendly: Many locals bring their dogs for walks, and the atmosphere is laid back.
🚶♀️ How can I play?
• Coastal trail walking/running/biking
• Sit back and watch the sunset + snack
• Take photos and check in (especially at dusk)
• Bring a dog/child to unwind
• Picnic + Chill for an afternoon
🕰️ When is the best time to go?
• Summer twilight: Sunset time is around 8pm, it is recommended to grab a beautiful spot an hour in advance.
• Less crowded on weekdays and more crowded on weekends, but the atmosphere is good.
💡Tips
• The seaside is windy, so remember to bring a jacket or scarf.
• Bring sunglasses, the sun will be quite harsh before sunset.
• Parking is not free, pay with the App or machine.
• Bring your headphones and play your favorite songs for a better feeling!
📝 Summary
Point Ormond Lookout is a really beautiful and comfortable place, without crowds and with a view of the sea, city, sky, and beautiful sunsets to accompany you to relax.
Next time you’re in Melbourne, don’t just visit the big attractions, remember to come here at dusk, sit back and watch a beautiful sunset and give yourself a quiet moment ~🌅🍃
