When you think of Kazakhstan, you think of endless grasslands and magnificent skies, but it turns out that less than a 3-hour drive from the city of Almaty hides the second largest canyon in the world - the Chalon Canyon! This trip visited the three major landmarks of Enbekshikazakh district: Charyn Canyon Valley of Castles, Charyn Canyon National Park, and Charyn Visitor-Center with clean and convenient ground. The natural landscape is super shocking, and the photos are beyond the video. It's really worth a visit!

Attraction Inventory Strategy

1️⃣ Charyn Canyon Valley of Castles
Known as the "Colorado of Kazakhstan", this is the best part of the canyon. Standing at the observation deck, your eyes are directly attracted by a red valley, with strange-shaped rocks towering like ancient castles, super dramatic! The valley bottom trail is about 2 kilometers in total, suitable for walking slowly and taking pictures while admiring the magnificent landscape.

* Tip: It is recommended to go in the morning, the sunlit canyon colors are more distinct, avoid the midday high temperature more comfortable.

2️⃣ Charyn Visitor-Center
If you want to learn about the geology of the canyon, the diversity of flora and fauna, first go to the Visitor-Center is very rewarding. There are detailed displays and explanations inside, the staff are very enthusiastic, you can also buy some water, simple snacks to prepare enough before leaving, the washrooms and facilities are very new.

3️⃣ Charon Canyon National Park
The entire canyon area is designated as a national park, and the ecological protection is done well. In addition to the classic Valley of Castles, there are different hikes exploring various landscapes, with some angles overlooking the magnificent landscape of the entire canyon. The park is very large, with designated camping spots, and you can think about choosing a night to stay under the stars!

- The canyon area is genuinely super big, be sure to wear comfortable sneakers.
- The wind can sometimes be very strong, hat or silk scarf to put away, according to the weather more spare jackets.
- Water must be enough, almost impossible to resupply halfway through.

Food options are limited within the Chalon Canyon area, and it is recommended to buy light dry food and drinking water in the city of Almaty or at the starting point of the trip. Back in town you can try Kazakh specialty barbecue and mare's milk wine and experience the authentic taste!
