I took a road trip with friends to escape the summer heat and was amazed by the beauty of the Bairui Tianlu (formerly known as Jingbei First Tianlu). Chengde Fengning Bairui Tianlu is the closest Bashang grassland to Beijing, with a total distance of about 88 km. Here are some travel tips:
💜Temperature:
The temperature in Fengning Bashang feels like only 15 degrees Celsius. Bring a thick coat as it can get a bit chilly, especially at night. Don't forget your sunscreen, though—it's not hot, but the sun is strong.
💚Route:
It takes about 3 hours to drive from Beijing. Bairui Tianlu is a paradise for road trip enthusiasts. You can drive in, stop and go as you please, and fully immerse yourself in the natural scenery. There are three routes to choose from:⬇️
1️⃣1.5-hour route:
Baihuapo - Camel Peak - Tiandi T-stage - Huanghua Peak - Exit
2️⃣3-hour route:
Baihuapo - Camel Peak - Tiandi T-stage - Huanghua Peak - Liuyun Ridge - Windmill with Birch - Farm Flower Sea - Birch Ridge - Exit
3️⃣4-hour route:
Baihuapo - Camel Peak - Tiandi T-stage - Huanghua Peak - Liuyun Ridge - Windmill with Birch - Farm Flower Sea - Birch Ridge - Chayanbao - Qiansongba Afforestation Project Observation Point - Guangming Peak - Wuse Flower Field - End of the Sky - Hazelnut Ridge - Exit
Make sure to fill up your gas tank before you go, as gas stations are quite far off the route! The attractions are basically along one road, and the signs are clear, but pay attention to the exit! Taking the wrong turn can lead to a very long detour!
💙Scenery:
Lush green grasslands are everywhere, and the grass is already fully green and beautiful! With mountains, water, cattle, horses, flowers, and grass, it's the longest self-driving route in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. There are also many other attractions along Bairui Tianlu. Meiren Valley has a wooden boardwalk perfect for hiking, and the view of the sunset from the top of Yunzhong Grassland East Mountain is stunning. For those who enjoy horseback riding, you can visit the famous Horse Town. Overall, there's a lot to do and see.
💜Food and Accommodation:
The guesthouses and hotels near the scenic area are affordable. Be sure to try the local specialty roasted lamb chops and roasted leg of lamb—they're even better than in Beijing!
