Shiraito Falls is about 20 meters high and 150 meters long. Water gushing out from various parts of the cliff, spreading out in a horseshoe shape, flows down like many white threads. It is also a rare waterfall made from natural spring water and was designated as a National Scenic Spot and Natural Monument in 1936 due to its beautiful scenery.
The surrounding geology consists of a permeable layer (Shiraito lava flow) in the upper part and a layer that is difficult to flow (Old Fuji lava flow) in the lower part. It is believed that water from the melted snow that fell at the foot of Mt. Fuji flowed down into the upper part and through the boundaries between the layers and on the cliff. It was found that springs were coming out from the upper part and the edges between the layers.
