Ichijodani, once a prosperous castle town of the Asakura clan, was destroyed by an attack by Oda Nobunaga in 1574.

Since 1967, full-scale excavation of the castle ruins and samurai residences has been underway, and an area of 2.78 million square meters has now been designated a Special Historic Site.

This is the remains of the castle where the fifth head of the Asakura clan, Yoshikage Asakura, lived.

In addition to Japan's oldest flower beds, the castle, stables, and storehouses were neatly arranged.

The four gardens within the ruins are designated as Special Places of Scenic Beauty by the national government.

The typical tour route is from the restored townscape to the Asakura castle ruins, the bathhouse ruins garden, the inner palace ruins, and the Suwa castle ruins garden.
It takes about an hour!
