Ohori Park, Fukuoka City

Ohori Park

In the early Edo period, Kuroda Nagamasa, lord of the Fukuoka Domain, built Fukuoka Castle as its political center.

A moat was dug here, and water was diverted from nearby Hakata Bay to form a large lake, the forerunner of today's Ohori Park.

Ohori means "large moat." After the Meiji Restoration, the military function of Fukuoka Castle gradually weakened, and Lake Ohori also lost its defensive function.

Now, only its oriental aesthetic and cultural function remain. 🤗
