Introducing Jinggangshan Martyrs Cemetery

The Jinggangshan Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery is a major new revolutionary cultural attraction within the Ciping Central Scenic Area. It is located on Beiyan Peak, north of Ciping. Construction began on the cemetery in 1987 and was completed and opened to the public in October of the same year. In October 1997, the "Jinggangshan Revolutionary Martyrs Monument," inscribed by Deng Xiaoping, was dedicated.

Upon entering the cemetery's main gate, you'll be greeted by a horizontal archway bearing the nine gilded characters "Jinggangshan Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery." These characters were inscribed by Song Renqiong, a veteran Red Army soldier who participated in the Jinggangshan struggle. After entering, you'll pass through flower beds and gardens, and ascend a wide, terraced staircase divided into two groups. The first group has 49 steps, symbolizing the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. The second group has 60 steps, signifying that the cemetery was completed in 1987, the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base.

A small road runs east of the mountain behind the cemetery, allowing the elderly, frail, and disabled to climb and enjoy the view. The cemetery's greenery primarily features cypress, osmanthus, azalea, and bamboo, complemented by native mountainside pines, fir, and mountain cherry trees. The large Japanese fir tree in front of the main gate is a Class I protected species. The forest corridors and sculpture garden flanking the steps feature cedar and boxwood trees. The cemetery's evergreen trees and floral arrangements create a solemn and dignified atmosphere.
