Located in the heart of Fukuoka City, Kushida Jinjiya is one of the most historic and iconic shrines in the Hakata area, affectionately known as "Kushida-san" by locals. In addition to its vibrant incense scene, it also serves as the main stage for the Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival, held annually in July. With a history spanning over 770 years, the shrine boasts enshrined figures like Ohtanasu, Amaterasu, and Susano-no-Mikoto, and is a popular spot for praying for business prosperity, health, longevity, and traffic safety. Within the shrine grounds, visitors can enjoy touchable "power stones," a lucky "ganzhi lun" (gray-branch wheel), and "reisen crane-no-well water," believed to prolong life. Behind the main shrine, a display of colorful and imposing Yamakasa floats used in past festivals is on display, creating a vibrant atmosphere even during off-seasons. Located in the heart of Hakata's historic district, within walking distance of Hakata Station and Nakasu-Kawabata Station, it's a must-see during your Fukuoka city tour.
