Jingdezhen People's Park is located at the confluence of the Changjiang River and the Xihe River in the western part of the city. Bordered by the Changjiang River to the east, the Xihe River to the north, Cidu Avenue to the west, and Gongyuan Road to the south, it covers an area of 6.5 hectares and is a comprehensive cultural and recreational park. The park was expanded in March 1954 on the site of the former Liu Family Orchard and opened to the public on July 6 of that year. In 2005, it underwent a comprehensive renovation and expansion, and is now open to the public free of charge. One theory states that the park was originally the private garden of a wealthy salt merchant named Li, and was later donated to the nation by his descendants.
People's Park is a semi-natural garden, broadly divided into three areas: a tourist area, an activity area, and a rest area. The central plaza, with its 2,400-square-meter lawn and surrounded by verdant pines and cypresses, hosts a variety of cultural and sports activities. To the south of the plaza is the Children's Playground, completed in 1983. It features a children's train, an electric carriage, a slide, a seesaw, and other recreational facilities. Between 1988 and 1989, a moon rocket and an amusement ride were added to the east and west sides of the children's playground, bringing the total area to 2,500 square meters. Today, many of the original recreational facilities are no longer visible.
The eastern riverside area offers a quiet resting area. Hundreds of tall maple and poplar trees, planted when the park was first established in the 1950s, have formed a magnificent forest, reaching tens of feet tall. The woodland is shaded by trees and has a gently undulating terrain. A riverside promenade offers visitors a place to relax. Also located near the river is the three-story Yanbo Building, with a main floor area of 1,500 square meters. It houses a reception room and a calligraphy and painting exhibition hall. There is also a basement for air defense.
The climate is subtropical monsoon humid; People's Park is shaded by green trees, has a quiet environment, and has fitness equipment for citizens. It is a good place for citizens to take a walk and relax, and is suitable for travel in all seasons.
