Simple About — Furong
Furong, also known as Furong Ancient Town (芙蓉镇) or Hibiscus Town, is a beautiful old town in Hunan Province, China. It sits on a cliff above the Mengdong River and is famous for its spectacular waterfall that flows right through the town.
Furong is over 2,000 years old and was originally called Wangcun. It became famous after the 1986 Chinese movie Hibiscus Town was filmed there, so people started calling it Furong (which means “hibiscus flower”).
The town has ancient Tujia minority culture, stilted wooden houses, narrow stone streets, and peaceful riverside views. Visitors love to see the big waterfall, walk through the old alleys, taste local snacks, and enjoy the traditional Tujia songs and dances.
