Gdansk - Poland.
We had a busy day walking around Gdansk, a beautiful, historic port town in northern Poland, trying to get to a number of recommended places of interest. It’s a picturesque town that looks straight out of a medieval fantasy film with classical oldie world look. (Not bad for a town that had to be completely rebuilt after WW2!
Everywhere we walked, down narrow cobblestone alleys to wide streets and plazas, there wasn’t one building that looked ugly and modern. The streets were clean and with no graffiti anywhere to be seen!
After visiting the brightly coloured Museum of Amber, we headed down towards the Neptune Fountain and passed along the way, the largest red brick cathedral in the world:- St.Marys Basilica. We had to walk right the way around it to appreciate its incredible design and detailing, including the multi coloured tile patterns on the roof.
After a quick stop at the Neptune fountain we then walked down the very wide street of Długi Targ (full of classy looking restaurants and bars) to the promenade along the Motlawa river front, over the Green Bridge and back up to the National Maritime Museum to take a closer look at the Sołdek, the first steamship build in Gdansk after the war.
Highly recommend a trip to Gdansk, very beautiful, historic and with many places of interest to explore. All in all, a great day out!
