Fort Cornwallis is a historical site which close to the beach front. Located in Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah, George Town Penang, this bastion fort is built by the British East India Company during Captain Francis Light took possession of Penang Island from the Sultan of Kedah in 1786. Absolutely a must visit site for historophile!
Open daily from 8am - 11pm. Admission fees: RM10 for Malaysian, RM 20 for foreigner. The ticket is redeemable for RM10 off on meals from cafe within the fort.
Less than 5 min walking distance, there is another iconic historical landmark, Queen Victoria Memorial Clock Tower. It's an Moorish style Jubilee Clocktower located in Lebuh Light, George Town, built to comemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. The tower is sixty feets height, each foot for each year of Queen's reign.
