☕ Aromatic Brew, Sluggish Service at Starbucks Reserve Gurney Plaza

Visited the Starbucks Reserve at Gurney Plaza and went straight for their signature Reserve coffee selection. I opted for beans from Colombia this time—lightly roasted with a rich, inviting aroma. The roast brought out a light acidity and a subtle sour note, which I personally don’t mind. A nice, refined cup as expected from Starbucks Reserve.
However, the service left a bit to be desired. My coffee was left sitting even after all the water had finished dripping, and despite trying to get the server’s attention a couple of times, no one responded promptly. That was disappointing, especially at a Reserve outlet where a more refined experience is usually expected.
Interestingly, I was told that even a simple cup of iced water would cost RM1. It’s the first time I’ve ever been charged for water at a Starbucks—globally. While I’m okay with it (as a shareholder, I understand the revenue angle), I can’t help but wonder if small charges like this, or for straws, might alienate regular customers over time.
On the bright side, the interior of this branch is nicely laid out, with that familiar modern and cozy Starbucks aesthetic. It’s a good place to sit and unwind—just don’t expect prompt service.
