📍Giethoorn
It is called "Venice of the Netherlands", but it is quieter and more suitable for relaxation than Venice. There are no cars on the streets, and people go out by boat or bicycle. The whole village is like a small world in a fairy tale.
🌿 What can you do here?
Take a boat and drift slowly, the scenery is super beautiful and chill
There are thatched houses + small wooden bridges everywhere, and they are beautiful no matter how you take pictures
The cafe and dessert shop are very unique, just right for eating while walking
If you want to stay for one night, there are also super beautiful homestays here!
📌 Tips:
It is recommended to check the weather and make sure it is sunny before going. There is no need to go on cloudy or rainy days. The scenery is much worse!
Giethoorn is really quiet, not suitable for rushing or making loud noises~ If you like slow life, you must not miss it! Slow down and enjoy it.
📅 Best time to travel: April to September, flowers are in full bloom and the water is the most beautiful
🛶 What boats can I choose?
Whisper Boat
❣️The most popular, self-driving, quiet and environmentally friendly
❣️Easy to drive, no driver's license required! Easy to learn, no need to drive a boat
❣️Can be rented for 1-2 hours, free to go on the waterway
👉 Suitable for couples, groups of friends, self-driving
Guided Canal Cruise
❣️Specialized person to drive the boat + Chinese/English guide introduction
❣️You can sit and listen to stories + take photos
👉 Suitable for families, elders, and children
Hand-rowed boat / canoe
❣️Quieter, close to nature
❣️More physically demanding, but very interesting!
👉 Suitable for travelers who want to do it themselves and have a strong sense of experience
💰 Boat rental price (reference)
Electric boat: €25~€40/hour (depending on the number of people and season)
Guide ticket: about €8~€15/person
It is recommended to make an appointment in advance during the peak season (April to September), and you may need to queue on site~
📍Rowing route suggestions:
Short distance (1 hour): A circle around the village center + classic small bridge area, the scenery is super beautiful!
Long distance (2 hours+): You can drive to the lake (Bovenwijde lake) to experience a more leisurely natural scenery
⚠️Note:
The boat speed is limited, you can't drive too fast, remember to give way~
Some places are one-way streets, be careful to look at the signs!
Remember to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and water when the weather is good
