I visited the Goreme Open Air Museum, a place you absolutely cannot miss when traveling to Cappadocia!
This is an important historical site registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where rock-cut churches and monasteries where early Christians practiced their faith are gathered. It is literally an open-air museum in nature, and there were ruins everywhere you walked.
I was amazed by the unique rock formations from the entrance of the museum. When I entered, I saw rock-cut churches and monasteries built around the 10th to 12th centuries that were well preserved, and among them, the gorgeous frescoes of the 'Dark Church' were really impressive. The murals that still remain in vivid colors made me feel the religious passion of the time.
It was a shame that there were a few places where photography was not allowed for preservation purposes, but I took in a lot with my eyes!
In addition, you can see not only the church, but also the monks' dining hall, kitchen, and other living spaces, allowing you to get a glimpse into their daily lives.
It is close enough to walk from Goreme Village, so it is very accessible. Even though I went there without any knowledge, it was a place that was memorable and amazing, so I definitely recommend you visit~!
