Pointe Bernache (known simply as Bernache) is located to the North East of Mauritius it is close to the larger island of Ile d'Ambre (Amber Island) and is best reached from the villages of Grand Gaube or Poudre d'Or. An excursion on the Pirate ship, Le Bounty ads extra magic. It is not far from the 1744 shipwreck of the Saint Greran. It takes about half an hour, and when departing from Grand Gaube or Poudre d'Or, boats stay inside the reef. This is a good alternative when the rough sea does not allow a visit to the islands on the North. Enjoy spectacular views of the mountains and coast line of Mauritius. Bernache is flat and covered in pine trees. There is not much to see, but the swimming and snorkeling is well enjoyed. Rare species of birds of Mauritius are present. Tours can be arranged from hotels in the area by speed boat, catamaran or other means. Normally a BBQ lunch with a variety of drinks under the shade of the trees are included. Some tours will include a visit to the mangroves on Ile d Ambre. This is not to be missed when in Mauritius.
