Yu Yin Shanfang

Yu Yin Shanfang is located on North Street, Nancun Town, Panyu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It is the private garden of Wu Bin, a successful candidate in the imperial examinations during the Qing Dynasty. Its construction began in the sixth year of the Tongzhi reign (1867) and was completed in the tenth year of the Tongzhi reign (1871), boasting a history of over 150 years.
Garden Features
Yu Yin Shanfang is renowned for its "hidden but not revealed, a dragon in miniature" design, and is a representative work of classical Lingnan gardens. Its architectural layout is ingenious, with pavilions, terraces, towers, halls, bridges, corridors, railings, mountains, and waters all contained within an area of 300 square paces. The main attractions in the garden include:
• Shenliu Hall: One of the main buildings in the garden, with couplets written by Wu Bin himself hanging on the pillars in front of the hall.
• Linchi Pavilion: Located south of the pond, echoing Shenliu Hall from afar.
• Linglong Waterside Pavilion: Situated in the octagonal pond in the eastern part of the garden, nestled among the greenery and water.
• Huanhong Kualü Corridor Bridge: Connecting the east and west parts of the garden, it is a landmark structure.
History
• Yu Yin Shanfang was originally built by Wu Bin to commemorate the blessings of his ancestors, taking the two characters "Yu Yin" (remaining blessings) as the garden's name.
• In 1983, the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government designated Yu Yin Shanfang as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit.
• In 2001, the State Council designated Yu Yin Shanfang as a national key cultural relic protection unit.
• In 2002, Yu Yin Shanfang was rated as a National AAA Tourist Attraction.
Tourist Information
• Opening hours: 8:00 to 18:00 daily, ticket sales stop at 17:00.
• Ticket prices: Full price: 18 yuan, half price: 9 yuan.
• Transportation guide: Take Subway Line 7 to Yuangang Station Exit B and transfer to Bus No. Fan 30 to Yu Yin Shanfang Terminal; or to Banqiao Station Exit A and walk for about 20 mins.
Yu Yin Shanfang is not only a beautiful classical garden but also an important symbol of Lingnan culture, making it well worth a visit.
