The Guanling Glacial Potholes are located in Dongzha, Pozhou Village, Duanqiao Town, Guanling County, Anshun, Guizhou. They are the largest glacial potholes in China and are also Quaternary glacial relics. Known as one of the "Top Ten Classic Hiking Routes in Guizhou," they attract hikers from all over.

🚗Getting There

1. By car: Navigate directly to "Dongzha Village." There is a small square at the destination for parking. The entire journey from Guiyang is about 180 km and takes about 2.5 hrs. Try to avoid crowds; it is recommended to arrive before 10 am.

2. Group tour: For those who don't want to worry about planning their itinerary or are unfamiliar with local road conditions, a group tour is a hassle-free option and a great way to meet like-minded people.

🎈Suggested Routes

1. Round-trip self-drive route: Follow the potholes all the way to the waterfall at the end, then return. Along the way, you can admire the various shapes of the potholes and the beautiful natural scenery. Every angle is a photo opportunity.

2. Through route (requires pick-up): After reaching the waterfall, navigate to Glacial Pothole Villa and have your car waiting there in advance. The through route is more challenging and allows you to fully experience the charm of the potholes, but you need to arrange transportation in advance.

🍱Food and Drink

1. Bring your own food: A picnic is a great option, but cooking is not recommended. Bring some bread, fruit, beef jerky, or other dry snacks.

2. Local cuisine: On your way back, you can visit Duanqiao Town and try the famous Duanqiao green pepper fish. Guanling's green peppercorns enhance the flavor and bring out the deliciousness of the fish.

3. Safety first: The glacial pothole scenic area is undeveloped. The stones are sharp and slippery, and some areas require wading through water, so be careful. When hiking along the riverbed, be aware of slippery surfaces and the risk of drowning. Climbing, touching the potholes, and other dangerous activities are strictly prohibited.

4. Appropriate clothing: Comfortable athletic shoes and clothing suitable for outdoor activities are recommended. Take precautions against sun exposure and insect bites.

5. Seasonal considerations: Visiting during the flood and rainy seasons (generally June–August) is not recommended. Rising river water not only submerges the potholes but can also lead to dangerous situations such as heavy rain, flash floods, and sudden rises in water levels. The best time to visit is during the dry season in autumn, winter, and spring (October–April).

6. Eco-friendly travel: Protect the environment. Do not leave any trash behind, and do not damage the riverbed vegetation or local plants.

7. Weather awareness: Hiking on the wet riverbed on rainy days is not recommended. Check the weather forecast before heading out and choose a sunny day for your trip.
