Visited Sakitama Shrine (前玉神社) in Gyoda City, Saitama — a peaceful place surrounded by history and nature.
The cat-themed ema (votive plaques) were absolutely adorable, each with a unique hand-drawn expression that made me smile. The hanachōzu (flower-filled water basin) was beautifully decorated, adding a colorful, seasonal touch to the tranquil grounds.
The shrine sits right next to the Saitama Kofun Cluster, a group of ancient burial mounds. The main hall (haiden) is actually built atop the Asamayama Kofun, blending history, mythology, and spirituality in one space.
The enshrined deities — Sakitamahiko-no-Mikoto and Sakitamahime-no-Mikoto — are said to protect people and bring happiness.
A lovely spot for those seeking both calm and a glimpse into Japan’s ancient heritage.
