While some people do day trips from Hanoi, I recommend coming directly to Halong, staying overnight, and exploring at your own pace.

There are plenty of places to explore in Halong City, and setting aside ample time for a tour will make your experience much more enjoyable.

It might seem similar to Korea's Dadohae, but the view of the limestone islands floating on the calm waters from a boat is spectacular.
Of course, the Song Sot Cave within the island is also worth seeing.
