The Red Rock Cliffs, located within the Hongshi Gorge Scenic Area of Yuntai Mountain in Xiuwu County, Jiaozuo City, are a rare example of a Danxia landform canyon in northern China. A glimpse of the mountain and a walk along the plank path within the mountain offer views of Hongshi Gorge.
The canyon has clear streams, red rocks and green water, which are particularly pleasing to the eyes. The scenic area combines beauty, seclusion, grandeur and danger in one, with springs, waterfalls, streams and pools in one valley. It is known as the " Bonsai Canyon " .
The total thickness of the red sandstone in Hongshixia reaches 150 meters in the Yuntaishan area, which constitutes the main body of the red canyon rock. The red color of the sandstone is formed by the oxidation of the iron components in the rock. Due to the uneven iron content, the depth of the sandstone color is different, forming various beautiful patterns.
