Then Haarlem may be the place for you! I took a day trip to this city from Amsterdam - the journey takes less than half an hour on the train!

In this city, you’re rewarded with a smaller version of Amsterdam. You’ve still got the canals and the beautiful Dutch architecture. But you don’t have the crowds, and it makes for a much more laid back experience whilst wandering around.

It’s also in this city that you can see some of the windmills that The Netherlands is so famous for. It’s quintessentially Dutch but without the mania that can sometimes accompany Amsterdam.
