If you ever drive the Karakoram Highway in Xinjiang, you must stop at Baisha Lake. This hidden gem took my breath away. With white sand dunes on one side and snow-covered mountains on the other, it feels like two worlds colliding — a desert oasis with glacial beauty.

The lake reflects the majestic Muztagh Ata (冰山之父), and if you arrive when the wind is calm, the mirror-like surface is pure magic. There are very few people here, no noisy tour buses, and the silence is something you’ll remember long after you leave.

📍 Just 30–40 minutes before reaching Tashkurgan, you can park off the highway and walk to the lake for free. Bring water, wear sturdy shoes (the ground is loose gravel), and try to come around 9am or 6pm for perfect light.

This is the kind of place that reminds you why you travel. Nature this untouched is becoming rare.

📸 Perfect for photography, drone shots, or just sitting and breathing in the landscape. Highly recommend pairing this stop with a visit to Karakul Lake and Tashkurgan Stone City.
