From Shinjuku, take the Keio Line Limited Express to Takaosanguchi Station in about 50 minutes. From there, walk 5 minutes to Kiyotaki Station, where you can take the cable car up the mountain to Takaosanguchi Station in just 6 minutes.
The cable car's incline reaches a staggering 31 degrees, one of the steepest in Japan, making it a thrilling ride. Once you arrive, take the Omotesando Route 1, a gentle route that passes Yakuo-in Temple, a temple steeped in Tengu culture. There are also several viewpoints where, on clear days, you can see Tokyo and even Mount Fuji.
Mount Takao is not only rich in natural beauty but also in delicious food. The mountain's Tengu soba and freshly baked soy sauce glutinous rice dumplings are highly recommended. With convenient access and a wide variety of routes, it's perfect for beginners and families. If you have time, relax in the hot springs near Takaosanguchi Station on your return trip. It's a perfect day trip combining nature, culture, and food.
