The Great Tianchi Lake, located at the top of Tianchi Mountain in the northwest of Lushan Mountain, is a rectangular pond with turquoise waters that shimmer like jade. Originally a pond for releasing animals within Tianchi Temple, Tianchi Temple is the oldest temple on the summit of Lushan Mountain. Founded by the Eastern Jin Dynasty monk Huichi, it was formerly known as Fengding Temple.
During the Song Dynasty, it was renamed " Tianchi Courtyard " . During the reign of Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, it was renamed " Tianchi Huguo Temple " . Emperor Chengzu of the Ming Dynasty renamed it "Tianchi Wanshou Temple " . Emperor Guangzong of the Ming Dynasty renamed it " Tianchi Miaoji Zen Temple " . It became the first temple in Kuang Lu. Later, the temple was abandoned, leaving behind this release pond.
When mountains and marshes are aerated, pearl-like bubbles often appear in the water, and clouds appear in the sky. This is because certain gases in the air encounter a decrease in pressure, forming stratus clouds. The water cannot hold more of these gases, so bubbles form.
