[Hokkaido] See the Hakodate Magistrate's Office, built in the Edo period and revived in the Heisei era

Hakodate Magistrate's Office

This Edo Shogunate government office was established as a base for the defense of Japan's northern border! 🏛️

To protect the Hakodate Magistrate's Office, the Edo Shogunate's government office,
Goryokaku was modeled after Western fortified cities and built using Japanese fortification techniques.
It is deeply connected to the history of Goryokaku!

It was demolished in 1871, two years after the end of the Boso War,
but in 2010, the Hakodate Magistrate's Office was rebuilt, faithfully recreating its original appearance as much as possible. ✨️

It's located very close to Goryokaku,
so be sure to stop by when you're touring Goryokaku. 🙆

Address:
44-3 Goryokaku-cho, Hakodate, Hokkaido
