Goryokaku Ruins is located in Hakodate, Hokkaido, Japan. It is a rare Western-style star-shaped fortress ruins in Japan. It was originally a military defense facility built by the shogunate during the late shogunate period. The overall shape is a five-pointed star, imitating the French fortification design, with strategic advantages in firepower and defense. The fortress was completed in 1864 and later became the stage for the final battle of the Hakodate War, which is of great significance to Japanese history.
Goryokaku will light up at night, it is recommended to check the lighting time first.
