Shomaru Pass, which separates Hanno City from Yokoze in Chichibu County... During the Edo Period, a temple for the Chichibu Pilgrimage was located here... Now, with the opening of the Shomaru Tunnel, it is a pass that has been separated from Route 299 and left behind in history. This time, we are cycling to Shomaru Pass. Starting from the parking lot of Hanno City Central Park, we climbed along the Naguri Valley. We headed for the biggest checkpoint, Yamabushi Pass, while enjoying the colorful autumn along the valley. Although there is only a signpost, it is a pass that gives a good sense of what it was like to cross the pass in the Edo Period. After descending from the pass for a while, you will see an unrepaired side road on your right. At the top of this old road is Shomaru Pass. We are warmly welcomed by Okumura Chaya, which was founded in 1941 and has 80 years of history. The specialty dish, Genghis Khan eaten with a secret sauce, is exquisite.
