Built in 1070, the Temple of Literature was originally in honor of Confucius. Later, it became the first university in Vietnam. Doctors and scholars spent their days roaming the grounds and jotting notes on giant scrolls that look like tombstones.

Behind the red doors is Confucius. The shrines are ornately decorated and gleaming with gold and red.

Something cool… the pagoda at the temple is on the 100,000vnd bill

Entrance fee: 10,000vnd (.42 cents)

Hours: 8-5pm and as always, if you want pictures, go there extra early because of high season.

Getting There - by motorbike or tour bus
Attractions - Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Old Quarter
