The charm of Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Sapa) in the rainy season

Amid the buzz and bike horns of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, there’s one place where time seems to slow down: Hoàn Kiếm Lake. Whether you're after a peaceful stroll, stunning photos, or simply a break, this central lake is a must-visit — especially in the cooler early mornings or golden hour.
🧭 I made my way here in the late afternoon, drawn by the shady trees, the gentle lake breeze, and the iconic Thê Húc Bridge leading to Ngọc Sơn Temple.
🍰☕ Coffee with a View
I grabbed a seat at a lakeside café (there are plenty!) and treated myself to a slice of cake and a cup of the iconic Vietnamese coffee — strong, sweet, and perfect after a warm day of walking around the Old Quarter. Sipping coffee while gazing over the water as locals did tai chi or couples posed for wedding shots was honestly therapeutic.
🎟️ Tip: Entry to the lake and surrounding areas is free, though if you want to explore Ngọc Sơn Temple, a small ticket fee applies (and can sometimes be bundled with Hanoi tours on Trip.com).
