One of the most vividly representative sites of Vietnamese history is Hoa Lo Prison, also known as Maison Centrale, built by the French. It's now a museum, and history buffs shouldn't miss it!
📍 Location & Access
• Located near the Hoan Kiem district, easily accessible from the Old Quarter, about 10 minutes away. 🚶
• Easy access by Grab or taxi.
💰 Admission Fee
• Adults: 30,000 VND (approximately 45 baht)
• Children: Free
🏠 Atmosphere & Highlights
• Exhibits include prison cells, prison equipment, and stories of the struggle for freedom.
• There's a section detailing the history of political prisoners, including American prisoners during the Vietnam War.
• The exhibits are thorough, with some creepy moments, but they're also very interesting.
💡 Things to Know
• It's not large, but it's packed with information. It's a fun read, and you'll spend about 1-2 hours there.
• Perfect for those who want to understand Vietnam beyond just sightseeing.
• The atmosphere inside is relatively quiet and serious. Dress appropriately.
✨ My feelings after the visit:
• I saw a different side of Hanoi, from the bustling Old Quarter to the quieter, more intimate atmosphere.
• I walked away feeling like this trip had more depth. It wasn't just about sightseeing, but also about absorbing history.
