The Heavenly Grassland in Inner Mongolia 🇨🇳

After spending a quiet morning surrounded by the windmills of 灯笼河草原 (Denglonghe Grassland), we continued our journey deeper into Inner Mongolia — heading toward 乌兰布统 (Ulan Butong).
The drive itself felt like a dream. 🚙 Endless rolling hills, golden grass stretching to the horizon — if heaven exists, it might just look like this part of the world. ☁️
We originally planned to stop at the Reindeer Tribe (乌兰布统达瓦鄂温克驯鹿部落), but since the sun sets really early in late October (by 5:30 PM it’s already dark!), we decided to not go inside the park. Still, our driver took us to the outer area, and while we didn’t spot any reindeer, we did see adorable alpacas grazing by the fields! 🦙 (and also deers but they are too far from the fence)
By late noon, we finally reached the Ulanbutong Scenic Area, and since it’s off season, no entrance fee was required! (Usually it’s RMB 120 per person.)
We checked into James Joyce Coffetel, dropped our luggage, and took a short rest before heading out for dinner and our first look at the Ulanbutong grassland under the blue sky. 🌙
🌬️ Tips for Travelers:
🧥 The wind here is much stronger than at 灯笼河草原 — bring a windbreaker and warm layers.
🥶 It’s colder than Chifeng, especially as the sun sets.
🎟️ Off-season = free entry, but most attractions like horse riding are closed.
🌲 By late October, most trees have gone dormant — don’t expect bright autumn leaves.
📸 But the good news? You’ll have the whole grassland to yourself. No crowds, no background photobombs — just nature and your outfit. Make it count!
