Hotel Granvia Hiroshima

For the second day of the Sanyo-San'in Pass trip, I booked a JR hotel directly connected to Hiroshima Station. This aligns perfectly with the theme of traveling to various Starbucks locations in the Chugoku region using the pass.
I had reserved the room back in January when I purchased my flight tickets, securing a rate in the 8,000 yen range with breakfast included. Currently, the price has nearly doubled.
Due to a typhoon, my Day 1 itinerary changed, and I ended up staying in Fukuoka instead of Osaka. I also missed my domestic flight in Japan. On Day 2, heavy rain in Shizuoka Prefecture caused a six-hour delay in Shinkansen operations. As a result, I had to cancel my afternoon plans in Kyoto and endure an additional six-hour layover in Fukuoka before finally arriving at Hiroshima Station a little after 3 PM to check in.
I was upgraded from a Standard Single to the next level, a Standard Semi-Double. After all the travel and delays, I was exhausted and immediately collapsed onto the bed after checking in.
Although the room size is the same as the single, the layout is better, and it’s located on a higher floor. I was assigned a room on the 18th floor, facing a Marriott-affiliated hotel across the way.
From the hotel, I could see travelers lining up for the Shinkansen below. The Shinkansen continued running until the early hours of the morning, with many people coming and going late into the night.
Because of its proximity to the station, this hotel was bustling with guests who had abandoned their previous plans or arrived late at night. The breakfast area was so crowded that there was a waiting line.
Ironically, the weather was great, offering a stunning view from the window. Breakfast included steak and a luxurious selection of fruits, including mangoes.
The hotel also provided a 15% discount coupon for its restaurants, which came in handy the next day. JR, which also operates hotels, has a monopoly by leveraging its station facilities. 👍 Thank you.
