Hotel Granvia Hiroshima South Gate Corner Twin Room

A 3-night, 4-day round trip to Kobe begins with a stay at a newly opened hotel in Hiroshima. This hotel, which opened in March this year, is essentially an annex of the existing Granvia Hotel. It is located on the south exit side of the station, across the railway tracks, in a newly constructed building.

Interestingly, the South Gate is more directly connected to the station than the Granvia. Starting in July, a tram terminal on the 2nd floor will open, making it a central hub of the station area. The hotel has a dedicated gate that connects directly to the station.

The reception is located on the 7th floor, and the guest rooms go up to the 21st floor. The 20th and 21st floors are designated as the South Gate floors. The hotel was booked at a special 30% discount in celebration of its opening.

Arriving in Kobe at 10:30 AM, the itinerary includes visits to Osaka and Kyoto before reaching Hiroshima around 6:30 PM for check-in. I was assigned a room on the 20th floor and immediately took advantage of the lounge's happy hour, which runs from 3 PM to 7 PM.

The happy hour features free drinks, including wine, Hiroshima local beer, Japanese sake, and whiskey. Pancakes are available upon request, but I skipped them since the next activity was afternoon tea. Instead, I enjoyed fruits, nuts, bread, and snacks.

After about 30 minutes at happy hour, I returned to my room at 7 PM. Each floor has two corner twin rooms and two corner double rooms. The twin rooms offer a railway view, while the double rooms provide a city view. With two windows, one side offers a distant view of mountains and the sea.

As a brand-new hotel, it is clean, comfortable, and convenient. The elevator system requires a transfer on the 7th floor, and guests must pass through the reception area to access the dedicated guest room elevators, which adds a layer of security but can be slightly inconvenient.

The hotel's 1st floor is a bus terminal, directly connected to various bus routes, making it very convenient. Buses are faster than trams for reaching the city center. While Granvia was already convenient, South Gate is even more so. However, airport buses depart from the Granvia side.

The South Gate rooms, equivalent to club rooms in other hotels, include breakfast. Breakfast costs 4,700 yen and is a highlight of the stay. Individual dishes include roast beef, anagomeshi (grilled eel rice), sukiyaki, and salmon steak.

The buffet is rich in seafood, featuring octopus, shrimp, scallops, mackerel, salmon, Spanish mackerel, and mussels. Fruits such as melon, watermelon, strawberries, cherries, and pineapple are also abundant. After checking out, it took just 3 minutes and 30 seconds to reach the Shinkansen boarding area. Thank you.
