📍Overall impression
The light yellow French villa building is very conspicuous in the city, like a foreign girl in fresh clothes, which is eye-catching. The huge three-story building is full of grandeur, with iconic Western-style arches, terraced staircases, atrium pools, wire patterns and large arch columns. A closer look reveals many Chinese designs, such as the green tile roof. The mixed Chinese and French architectural styles create this magnificent work of art.
📍History and Background
The museum was completed in 1934. It was originally a villa for Chinese merchants in Saigon. In 1987, it was designated by the government to be converted into an art museum and officially opened in 1992. The museum houses a large collection of works by local artists, including paintings and sculptures, most of which are without any obstructing decorations. The contents focus on war, agriculture, women, civilian life, etc., and are closely related to people’s livelihood.
📍Small places worth noting
Painted glass windows, old elevators, floor tiles, shutters, undecorated wooden doors, sculptures wearing masks, spiral staircases, girls with guns
📍Small episode
On the day of the visit, elementary school students happened to come to visit, it was very noisy and energetic😂 A group of them came in lively and bustling, and after leaving, it suddenly became very deserted. Tourists were scarce to begin with.
