📍 Location and time
• Location: The main spots are around Bach Dang Street and Japanese Covered Bridge along the Thu Bon River.
• Time: The busiest time is from after sunset until around 9:00 p.m. Especially on the 14th day of the lunar calendar, the "Lantern Festival", the whole town is lit up with lanterns, creating an even more fantastic atmosphere.
🏮 How to buy and float lanterns
• Price of lanterns: They cost around 10,000 to 15,000 VND (about 60 to 90 yen) per piece, and can be purchased from vendors along the river.
• How to float:
• From the riverbank: You can float the lantern you purchased on the spot.
• From a rowboat: You can negotiate with a boatman touting on Bach Dang Street and float a lantern from the middle of the river in a boat. The estimated fee is 100,000 VND (approx. 600 yen) per person, and 200,000 VND (approx. 1,200 yen) for two people.
✨ Attractions of the experience
• Make a wish: By making a wish on a lantern and letting it float, you can experience the traditional custom of praying for good luck, health, and peace.
• Fantastic scenery: The sight of countless lanterns floating on the river and the illuminated cityscape is perfect for photos.
• Combine with a night market: After floating the lanterns, it is also recommended to enjoy shopping and local cuisine at the nearby night market.
⚠️ Things to note
• Price negotiation: Some sellers may offer prices higher than the market price. Check the market price in advance and purchase at a price that you are satisfied with.
• Safety measures: When riding a boat, be sure to wear a life jacket and take care of your belongings.
• Environmental considerations: Although the lanterns are made from natural materials, please be mindful of the impact they have on the environment and help with garbage collection after they are released.
