In June 2021, the former Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir was confirmed as a Grade 1 historic building by the Antiquities Advisory Board. The Water Supplies Department has previously launched a virtual tour of the service reservoir. The department is now opening the service reservoir to the public for limited visits in the form of guided tours. It is hoped that the public can learn about the historical background of the former Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir and appreciate its internal structure, thereby enhancing public awareness of the conservation of water supply historical buildings and heritage.
Citizens (individuals and groups) are welcome to make an appointment to join the "Former Sham Shui Po Reservoir Guided Tour"*. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the gathering point to the former Sham Shui Po Reservoir. The journey mainly involves narrow mountain roads and stairs, which requires a certain amount of physical strength. Applicants should consider the actual physical conditions of their group members when applying, and consider whether they are suitable for joining the guided tour and whether they need to be accompanied and assisted by a caregiver to join the guided tour.
Personal equipment recommendations:
. Wear appropriate clothing and sports shoes. Anti-epidemic supplies (including hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, etc.)
. Mosquito repellent products (e.g. mosquito repellent)
. 3.5mm standard earphones (to connect to the wireless receiver distributed during the event)
Things to note during the visit:
. Please follow the guide's instructions during the visit. Do not enter any area that you are not allowed to enter (such as fenced areas) to avoid danger. The Department will not be held responsible for any damage.
. Participants are advised to pay attention to safety and keep their personal belongings carefully during the event. The Department will not be responsible for any loss or damage.
. Please do not leave the team without permission during the event. If participants need to leave the group midway, they must sign a midway withdrawal statement.
. Participants are not allowed to eat or drink during the visit (except drinking water and taking medicine).
. Participants are required to maintain good personal hygiene and appropriate social distance during the visit.
. During the activity, please do not do anything that may potentially damage the environment or any part of the building and the surrounding area (such as graffiti on the wall, kicking the stone pillars, etc.). If any damage occurs, this department has the right to pursue the matter and demand compensation.
