Intangible Cultural Heritage Office launches new exhibition "Man-made, Intangible Cultural Heritage"

The new exhibition "Man-made. Intangible Cultural Heritage" curated by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Office (ICHO) under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department is open to the public from May 19. The exhibition is held at the CLP Clock Tower Cultural Centre, which was revitalised from a Grade 1 historic building. It displays ten traditional crafts and performing arts that are part of Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage (ICH) to enhance the public’s understanding of the protection and inheritance of ICH.

Intangible cultural heritage is invisible and intangible, but it can bring communities together and be passed on forever through oral transmission and practical application. Traditional crafts meet the needs of daily life, while performing arts enrich the color of life. By turning the virtual into the real, they present intangible beliefs, customs and aesthetic concepts in a tangible way.

Guest curator Xiao Guojian used the three exhibition areas of "Clothing and Shoes", "Decorations and Accessories", and "Characters and Sounds" in the "Man-Made. Intangible Cultural Heritage" exhibition to showcase ten intangible cultural heritage items through real objects, interactive installations and videos, including Hong Kong Chinese cheongsam making skills, leather shoe making skills, wooden furniture making skills, flower belt weaving skills, Western gold jewelry making skills, jade making skills, movable type printing skills, pasting spring couplets, seal carving skills and Nanyin. By showcasing these intangible cultural heritage items, we show how the torch is passed down from master to apprentice and how it generates endless vitality and creativity.

The CLP Clock Tower Cultural Center is located at 147 Argyle Street, Ho Man Tin, Kowloon. Admission is free and the opening hours are from 10am to 6pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
