[Eastern Hong Kong Island] Dragon's Back: Watch the beauty of sunrise on a world-class hiking trail

#springplace2024

There is sunrise every day, but not everyone can appreciate its beauty. This time, my friends and I decided to go to Dragon's Back in the east of Hong Kong Island to watch the sunrise.

We set out on our outing at around four in the morning. Once you reach Land Bay, follow the trail. It was early in the morning and it was still dark. Fortunately, the mountain road was not too steep and we had flashlights with us, so we reached the top in no time.

Climbing along the mountain road, there are layers of hills under your feet. The temperature was not very low that day, but the wind was very strong, especially in the high and open areas where the wind was even stronger. If you don't pay attention to your steps, you really won't be able to stand steadily.

At first the weather was not very good, there seemed to be haze in the sky, and the sunrise time was approaching, but there was still no morning light. We thought we probably wouldn’t be able to see the sunrise today. But it was rare to reach a high place, so even though it was almost sunrise, we did not leave. We sat on the high place and looked around. We saw islands dotted in the blue sea, sparkling with water.

I didn’t expect that the sunrise was not absent, but just late. As soon as you notice the glow of the sunset gradually dyeing the sky red, you will see the sun like salted egg yolk slowly rising. The mountains and the sea are intertwined together, forming a breathtaking natural picture. We felt the coolness of the early morning, and in the strong wind, our hearts were filled with a rare peace.

The bay of Shek O comes into view in the distance, with vast blue waves, which is refreshing. No wonder Longji was selected by CNN as one of the 23 most beautiful hiking routes in the world. It really deserves its reputation.
