Introducing Gouyaling, which has the highest level of difficulty. It is not recommended to go forward without certain experience and physical fitness. There are many routes to Gouyaling. Some require passing through a dangerous ridge called "A Line of Hope" which is as thin as a blade and full of accidents. After passing it, there is a huge wall "Yanwang Wall" waiting for your final climb. There are many sections on the Gouyaling route that are scary just by hearing their names.
Gou Ya Ling is located in Lantau Country Park. It is a branch of Phoenix Mountain in the south and east of Shek Pik Reservoir. The terrain of Gouyaling is high and low, with sharp and narrow peaks, shaped like dog's teeth, hence the name. The most dangerous place is called "A Line of Hope", with dangerous slopes on both sides, which is steeper than Anaconda Peak, the most dangerous peak in Hong Kong. Due to weathering, some sections of the trail are covered with gravel and are very rugged. In addition, the natural trail on the ridgeline is not a hiking trail maintained by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department. There are cliffs everywhere along the way, which is extremely dangerous.
I would like to remind you again that the route to climb Gouyaling is extremely dangerous, and many serious casualties have occurred there over the years. Between 2013 and 2017, there were many incidents of people falling off a slope, getting lost, and exhaustion. In November 2017, an experienced hiker lost his footing and fell off a cliff when he was at a "lifeline". He fell 30 meters down a steep slope and hit his head on the ground and died.
Therefore, even if you have been hiking for many years, before heading to Gouyaling, you must still consider whether your own and your teammates' abilities and experience are sufficient to cope with it. Some sections of the road are steep, with large ascents and slopes, requiring both hands and feet to climb, which requires a lot of physical strength. Some sections even pass through narrow cliffs and are highly dangerous. Beginners who lack mountaineering experience, are afraid of heights, or have poor balance should not take this challenge. Even those with extensive mountaineering experience should not go alone and must be cared for during the trip.
Before setting off, you must understand the route clearly, make adequate plans, and ensure that you are physically and mentally prepared. There are no supply points or quick retreat routes along Gouyaling, so remember to prepare enough food and water in the summer. For safety reasons, avoid traveling before or after heavy rain or when thunderstorm warnings are in effect. #Local Travel #Overseas Travel #Hiking
