This year, I wanted to spend my birthday differently—no big parties, no packed schedules, just a city to explore at my own pace. Hong Kong felt like the right place for it.
I booked a hotel with a view that made me want to leave the curtains open all night. Watching the skyline shift from sunrise to city lights was almost hypnotic—it reminded me why I love traveling.
Food was a priority, of course. From a proper dim sum breakfast to the best local wonton noodles, every meal felt like part of the experience. There’s something about finding a tiny, crowded spot where everything is made fresh that makes the food taste even better.
Walking along Victoria Harbour, I let myself slow down. The ferry ride across the water was something I’d done before, but it never gets old. There’s a quiet beauty in watching the city from the deck, feeling the wind, and knowing you’re somewhere that’s constantly moving.
Then there was Lantau Island—misty, green, and so different from the city. The fog made the Big Buddha feel almost otherworldly, like something of a painting. I wandered, took my time, and just enjoyed being there.
It was exactly the kind of birthday I wanted—no rush, no pressure, just good food, good views, and a city that felt right.
