Climbing Peak Road in Hong Kong is a great way to experience stunning views, lush greenery, and an excellent workout. Here’s what to expect:
1. Route Overview
Starting Point: Central or Mid-Levels
Ending Point: Victoria Peak (The Peak Tower/The Peak Galleria)
Distance: ~3–4 km (depending on the route)
Duration: ~1 to 1.5 hours
Difficulty: Moderate (steep inclines but paved paths)
2. Popular Routes to Peak Road
A. Via Old Peak Road (Most Direct & Challenging)
Start from Garden Road (near the Peak Tram terminus).
Walk up Old Peak Road, a steep, paved road surrounded by trees and luxury residences.
Great for fitness enthusiasts due to its continuous incline.
Ends at the Peak Tower and Peak Galleria.
B. Via Hatton Road & Lugard Road (Scenic & Gradual)
Start from Kotewall Road in Mid-Levels.
Take Hatton Road up to Lugard Road, a picturesque flat path circling Victoria Peak.
This route is more gradual and offers panoramic views of Hong Kong.
3. Why Climb Peak Road?
Spectacular Views: Overlooks Victoria Harbour, Kowloon, and the South China Sea.
Good Workout: A great cardio challenge, especially via Old Peak Road.
Lush Greenery: Enjoy a break from the city with fresh air and tree-covered paths.
Less Crowded: Compared to taking the Peak Tram, hiking up offers a more peaceful experience.
4. Tips for Climbing Peak Road
Wear comfortable shoes – the incline can be steep.
Bring water – limited refilling stations on the way up.
Start early or go at sunset – avoid the midday heat.
Take the Peak Tram or a bus down if you don’t want to walk back.
