Taking your children to visit M+ in Hong Kong is definitely a surprising parent-child art trip! This leading museum of contemporary visual culture in Asia not only has a design-filled building, but also has many interactive experiences specially designed for children.
We started from the Kowloon MTR Station and walked along the Art Bridge of Elements Shopping Mall for about 10 minutes to arrive. The transportation is very convenient. You can also take the West Rail Line to Austin Station and take the free shuttle bus to the West Kowloon Cultural District directly. It is very friendly to families with children.
As soon as you enter the museum, you will be shocked by the spacious space. Children love the "Objects, Space, Interaction" exhibition area the most. Here, the "no touching" convention is broken and children are encouraged to explore design principles through assembling building blocks, light and shadow games, etc., and have a lot of fun.
The sky garden on the 3rd floor is a must-go place for children to relax. While children are running around outdoors, parents can leisurely enjoy the panoramic view of Victoria Harbour. The museum is equipped with parent-child toilets, nursing rooms, and baby strollers. It is recommended to borrow them at the ground floor reception desk upon entry.
There are treasure hunt games and easy-to-understand explanations of works of art to help children understand contemporary art. The only thing to note is that some exhibition halls (such as the "Sigg Collection") have more abstract content. You can first focus on the interactive installations in the underground lobby and the "Courtyard" exhibition on the B1 floor.
🕰️Business hours: Tuesday to Thursday and weekends 10:00-18:00, extended to 22:00 on Friday (closed on Monday)
💰Tickets: Permanent exhibition free, special exhibition HK$120 (free for children under 12 years old)
📍Transportation: MTR Kowloon Station Exit E4/Austin Station Exit D2, transfer to the free shuttle bus
📍Address: 38 Museum Dr, West Kowloon
💞Tips: There are more people on weekends, so it is recommended to go on weekdays; the air conditioning in the museum is strong, so remember to bring a small jacket
