High Junk Peak (釣魚翁)

High Junk Peak (釣魚翁) is renowned for its rugged terrain and stunning coastal views, making it one of the most challenging hiking trails in Hong Kong. The peak is steep, surrounded by the sea on three sides, and sharply shaped, resembling a fisherman casting his line. Climbing High Junk Peak requires physical strength and courage, as some sections demand both hands and feet to navigate. However, once you reach the summit, the breathtaking views of Clear Water Bay and Tseung Kwan O make all the effort worthwhile.

There are two main routes to ascend High Junk Peak. The more traditional route starts from Ng Fai Tin, featuring steep inclines and sections with loose rocks that require careful footing. The other route begins at Po Toi O, which is relatively gentler but longer in distance. Regardless of the chosen path, hikers can enjoy the captivating scenery of Hong Kong's eastern coastline, including the Ninepin Group and Kau Sai Chau.

The summit offers exceptional panoramic views, allowing a 360-degree appreciation of the surrounding landscapes. The refreshing sea breeze adds to the experience. However, due to the steep terrain and lack of shade in certain sections, hikers should prepare for sun protection and hydration, especially during summer. The challenging nature of High Junk Peak makes it a favorite among seasoned hikers, and the sense of accomplishment upon reaching the top is unparalleled. If you enjoy pushing your limits and crave magnificent coastal views, High Junk Peak is a destination not to be missed.
